Scale

When you apply heat to water containing calcium and magnesium hardness salts, the hardness comes out as scale. This can cause blockages in pipework, reduced efficiency of heat excghangers but it can also harbour Legionella bacteria.

It is therefore important to add chemicals to hold the hardness salts in solution to prevent them scaling surfaces. Prowater can provide a wide range of chemical solutions for scale prevention and reduction. These can be delivered to suit your application and existing dosing equipment can normally be used.

Corrosion

In most cases dissolved oxygen is the primary cause of corrosion although 'mixed metal systems' can also suffer from corrosion through galvanic action. Corrosion eats away costly system components and corrosion products can cause staining and sludging. If precommission cleaning has been missed or carried out incorrectly, then mill scale, rust, grease and other residues can cause severe operating problems.

Fouling

Most systems provide ideal conditions for one or more of the common micro-organisms such as bacteria, fungi and algae to multiply quickly and cause organic fouling. Apart from the obvious problems of blockage and poor heat transfer, organic fouling present an inevitable health hazard.
